Answer the following

1. Who was Lencho? What were his main problems?
Ans.
Lencho was a hardworking farmer who lived on the crest of a low hill with his
family. He eagerly waited for a good rain to have a good harvest but hailstorm
destroyed his crops, so he needed money to sow his field again and support his
family. So, these were his main problems.
2. What
did the earth need? Why did Lencho keep looking towards the north-east? (Imp)
Ans. The
earth needed a downpour or at least a shower. Lencho kept looking towards the
north-east because the rain clouds were to come from that direction.
3. How
did Lencho and his family welcome the rain? When it began to rain?
Ans. When
it began to rain, Lencho became very happy. He called the rain drops ‘new
coins’ and went out to have the pleasure of feeling the rain on his body. His
sons exposed themselves and ran out to collect the frozen pearls.
4. How did the rain become troublesome?
Ans. After
some time, suddenly a strong wind began to blow and along with the rain, very
large hailstones began to fall. The hail destroyed his entire crop. Thus the rain
became troublesome.

Raindrops are compared to new coins. The small raindrops are compared to five
cent and big drops are compared to ten-cent pieces.

According to Lencho, the field of ripe corn dotted with flowers always promised
a good harvest. That is why he was expecting a good harvest.

did Lencho’s prediction about rain come true?
Ans. Lencho
looked towards the north-east and remarked that they would get some water. His
prediction came true when it started raining in the evening.
8. Why was Lencho’s soul filled with
sorrow?
Ans. The hail and
hailstones rained on the valley for an hour and had left field totally covered
with snow. The crop was completely destroyed which made Lencho’s soul filled
with sorrow.

fields covered with the curtain of rain?
Ans. Lencho
felt so satisfied when he saw his fields covered with the curtain of rain. He
thought that he would get good harvest and earn a good amount of money.
10. Why was Lencho happy to see the rain
falling?
Ans- Lencho
was happy to see the rain falling because the earth needed a downpour or at
least a shower. It was very useful for his crop. Each of the rain drops was
valuable coin for him.
11. Why did Lencho say , “It’s really
getting bad now”?
Ans. Lencho
said “It’s really getting bad now” because the rain suddenly changed into
hailstorm. He hoped that it would pass quickly, but it continued for an hour.
He knew that it would destroy everything.

kind of faith did Lencho have in God? (Imp)
Ans. Lencho
had complete faith in God. He knew that God helps everybody. His eyes can see
everything, even what is deep in one’s conscience. Nobody dies of hunger
because of is kindness.

Ans. Lencho
wrote to God that if He did not help him, his family and he would go hungry
that year. He needed a hundred pesos in order to sow his field again and to
survive until the new crop came because the hailstorm had destroyed his entire
crop.
14. How much money did Lencho need? How
much money did he get?
Ans. Lencho
needed hundred pesos to sow a new crop and feed his family till the next
harvest. Lencho got only seventy pesos, which was less than he requested to
God.
